Incorporating R M Brown - Insurance

Here is the information we must give to you to comply with the rules of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).  We also try to explain rationale, so you may be better informed and thus help us to give you a better service.

We are Authorised and Regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority; registered number 137380.  The FCA web site is, where you may check our authorisation if you wish.

There is a bewildering and (we think) confusing plethora of combinations for the 3 types of regulated advisor:

  1. Insurance
  2. Mortgages
  3. Investments.

Some advisors are regulated for one of these activities, others for two of them, and a very few (like us) for all 3.

Those regulated for each activity may be fully independent, or tied to one or a few providers.  Because a firm is independent for one activity does not mean it is independent for the others.  For example many mortgage brokers are independent for mortgages, but tied to one insurer for other regulated business.  We think this is confusing and doesn’t gives a good deal to the consumer.

All regulated firms have to disclose their status in this respect.  This is done in the CIDD (click link below).

We believe that:

Combined Initial Disclosure Document (CIDD) sets out, in as brief a form as possible, the nature of our status and how we can help you.  It is in a form prescribed by the FCA.

We have no allegiance to any insurance company, investment house or lender.  Our allegiance & duty is to our clients.

Please click on the links below for the relevant terms of business:

  1. General Insurances (i.e. non-Investment)
  2. Independent Financial Advice (life assurance, pensions etc.)
  3. Mortgages (and re-mortgages) - we prefer to ask clients questions to narrow down the options available from the whole market.  We then present a series of league tables and invite clients to choose what suits them best.  Our experience in 40 years of mortgage broking is that this should give the best client satisfaction. What suits one person may not suit another with the same financial profile.  Other than this, see above for our Terms of Business for Independent Financial Advice.
